After a quick defeat at the hands of Jon Jones in March, Ciryl Gane wants to start over. And he returns home to face Sergey Spivak at the UFC’s premiere in France on Saturday, September 2.
A national Muay Thai champion, Gane turned pro in 2018 and joined the UFC in 2019. The 33-year-old fighter is 8-2 in the UFC and 1-2 in his last three outings. The ex-UFC interim heavyweight champion lost a t**le fight to Francis Ngannou in January 2022 but won against Tai Tuivasa in September of the same year. Facing Jones for the vacant t**le at UFC 285, Gane went to the ground and lost via submission in the first round.
Hoping to win gold again, Gane will need a convincing performance. Spivak is standing in Gane’s path. Turning professional in 2014, Spivak is a former WWFC Heavyweight Champion. He joined the UFC in 2019 and is 7-3 with the promotion. After Tom Aspinall snapped his three-fight win streak in 2021, the Moldovan started a new one. Ranked seventh in the UFC heavyweight rankings, his last bout was a submission victory over Derrick Lewis in February.
